Abstract
Geographical information system is a new concept which is slowly getting introduced in service sectors like Library. In this present study, GIS-Map Info Professional, a software package has been used to create a database and maps for the benefit of Tourists, Tourism officials and research scholars. Tourist spots were identified in the digitized map. The database which runs upto 30 minutes covering names of the temples, location, photograps and other facilities around the tourist places were given hyperlinks to various fields. This database has been shown to tourists from India and abroad, Tourism department officials and research scholars from Madurai Kamaraj University [India]. The study concluded that this serves as digital tourist document which was recommended by the study user group [respondents of the study ] . The study took place in Madurai district between Novem 2000 and February 2004.
